How Do You Define Quality?

I am deeply disgusted by the lack of integrity in some businesses.

The other day after picking up my children from summer camp, I decided that I would forego cooking dinner that evening and stop by my local KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) and do the family style dinner. KFC for my family and many others here in the southern states in the USA has traditionally been a great placed to get that good home style cookin’ for a good price especially for families of 4 or more like mine!

Well ever since this Recession hoopla started many businesses have begun to cut back on the quality and size of their food! And KFC I am assuming has jumped on that ship and are on the fast track to sinking.

We decided to go for the Create your own bucket and get 2 sides and 4 biscuits for around $20 and some change. We went with popcorn chicken, the original chicken, and some honey barbecue boneless wings, our sides were potato wedges and the infamous Coleslaw!

We were psyched, mouths watering and everything as the lady in the window handed us our bag and we sped off. Of course we all had to dip in on the car ride home, and boy were we disappointed.

For starters the popcorn chicken was just popcorn, pure batter, absolutely no chicken. Then the original chicken was dried up and the chicken itself was tough and barely any on the bones, weird! The honey barbecue wings were good; however the potato wedges were more like potato skin slices, as there was no potato to fill out a wedge.

And that infamous Coleslaw, not so much it was runny and thinned out, definitely more “Cole” then slaw in my book. But most disappointing, those deliciously fattening biscuits were bite sized teaser trials. The biscuits seemed to have shrunk by 50%.

What the heck happened? So much for a good purchase and quick dinner, we were highly P- O’d, but I didn’t bother going back, I just let it go, but I officially want to say that KFC has lost a good customer!

I understand that the cost of food is increasing, and people are losing their jobs etc. But money is still being spent people, and we still got to eat.

Now more than ever businesses like KFC who “were” known for their generous portion sizes for the great deal should stay consistent, because many families are making more prudent choices on how to spend their money, because they still need to eat!

When these families decide to go to KFC thinking they will get their money’s worth, they will be gravely disappointed! What a shame.

There is a lesson I learned here, be consistent with the value you give today and tomorrow. Always give your best knowledge, tips, and tricks when it comes to marketing your business.

That’s how the word will spread about you as a leader, people will start talking, and saying “hey you know so and so, you can always be sure to get your money’s worth on anything they put their name on”.

Be sure to under promise and over deliver. I am interested to see what happens to KFC in the coming months, because right now if they keep that crap up, they’ll be in line behind GM- Bankrupt!
